How to Get a Dent Repair Photo Estimate From DentPro Solutions

A few clear photos let us see your dent before we visit. This guide shows how to take them and where to send them.

Why Photos Help

Why a Dent Repair Photo Estimate Saves You Time

A dent repair photo estimate lets us judge the damage from wherever you are. Good photos show the size and depth of the dent, where it sits on the panel and whether the paint is still intact. Those details decide whether paintless repair is the right fit and how much work the repair involves.

A dent repair photo estimate also saves you a trip. You do not need to drive anywhere or wait for someone to come look before you know your options. Once we have seen the damage, we can talk through the repair and plan a visit to your home or workplace.

Clear photos make for a clearer answer. Blurry or dark pictures hide the edges of a dent, and a single close up can make a large dent look small. The tips below help us see what you see.

Taking the Photos

How to Photograph Car Dents So We Can Read Them

Knowing how to photograph car dents takes only a phone camera and a few minutes. Work through this short checklist for each damaged panel:

  • Take one photo of the whole panel from about six to eight feet away, so we see where the dent sits.
  • Take two or three close ups from about two to three feet away, straight on and from each side.
  • Shoot at a low angle along the panel, which shows the shape and depth of the dent.
  • Photograph any spot where the paint looks cracked, chipped or scratched.
  • Include a wider shot of the vehicle so we can see its make, model and body style.
  • Repeat the same set for every other panel with damage, including the roof after a hailstorm.

Hold the phone steady and tap the screen on the dent so it focuses there. Wipe off dirt or water first, since spots on the panel can hide the edges of the damage.

Dent Photo Lighting, Reflections and the Straight Line Trick

Light is the most important part of a dent photo. Bright, direct midday sun tends to flatten a dent and wash out its edges. Open shade, an overcast day or a garage with even lighting usually shows the shape far better.

Reflections are what reveal a dent. A smooth panel reflects a straight line as a straight line, and a dent bends it. Park so the panel reflects something with a clean edge, such as a garage door seam, a fence rail, a roofline or a curb, and photograph the dent where that line crosses it.

If nothing nearby gives a clean reflection, lay a striped towel or a piece of tape on the ground in front of the panel and shoot the reflection. The more clearly a straight line bends around the dent, the easier it is for us to read its depth.

What to Leave Out of Your Dent Photos

You do not need to photograph the VIN, the registration or your insurance card for an estimate. We only need to see the damage and the vehicle around it. Your vehicle's year, make and model go in the form fields, so there is no need to capture them in a picture.

Skip filters, zoom effects and editing apps as well. Photos straight from the camera show the true color and shape of the panel. If you took pictures right after the damage happened, send those too, along with any new ones.

How to Send Photos for a Dent Estimate

Our contact form is the simplest way to send photos for a dent estimate. Requesting a dent repair photo estimate this way takes a few minutes from start to finish.

  1. Open the Contact Form

Go to our contact page on the phone that took the photos. The form works the same on a phone as on a computer.

  2. Add Your Details

Enter your name, email, phone and address. Then add the year, make and model of your vehicle and the service you are interested in.

  3. Describe the Damage

Tell us what happened and where the dents are. Mention anything the photos may not show, such as a crease you can feel by hand.

  4. Attach Your Photos

Use the photo upload on the form to attach your pictures, then send it. Include the wide shots and the close ups together.

What Happens After You Send Your Photos

We review your photos and the details you sent, then get back to you about the repair. If paintless repair is a good fit, we explain what the work involves and give you a dent repair quote from photos, then plan a visit to your home or workplace.

Sometimes photos raise a question. If an angle is unclear, we may ask for another picture or want to see the panel in person before confirming. If the paint is cracked or the metal is torn, we will tell you honestly that a body shop may be the better choice.

If an insurance claim is involved, mention it in your message. We work with your insurance company and the claims process when needed, and your photos can help show the damage.

Common Photo Estimate Questions

For a single dent, five or six photos usually cover it: one wide shot of the panel, a few close ups from different angles, and a low angle shot along the surface. For hail damage or dents on several panels, take the same set for each panel. More photos are always better than too few.
